Traveling to Ostrava

Traveling by plane

Ostrava has an international airport Ostrava Leos Janacek International Airport, but the connection with other airports is not frequent. The best option is to travel to the Prague International Airport or to the Vienna International Airport. A frequent (several per day) train connection from Prague or Vienna to the Ostrava exists.

Traveling by car

In Czech Republic is necessary to have a highway stamp for driving on the highways. Ostrava lies on Highway networks, so it is very easy to reach from Austrian, Germany's border with Poland.

Traveling by train

From Prague – there are direct high-speed trains SC Pendolino connecting Prague (Main Station/Hlavni nadrazi) with Ostrava 9 times a day, the travel takes about 3 hours (ticket cost 500 CZK/approx. 20 EUR). Airport Express bus service operates between Prague Airport and Prague Main Station. Direct EuroCity and InterCity trains between Prague and Ostrava operate in approx. two-hour period; the travel takes about 3 and half hours (ticket cost 300 CZK/approx. 12 EUR).

From Vienna – trains connect Wien Südbahnhof with Ostrava, the travel takes about 3 hours (ticket cost 800 CZK/approx. 32 EUR); please note that you may have to change trains in Breclav or Brno.

Train stations in Ostrava

Ostrava has several train stations, but only two are used by all trains – Ostrava Svinov and Ostrava Main Station. The Main station is closer to the city center, so if you have accommodation in center use this train station. Svinov station is closer to the university campus and conference venue. In front of each station there is a taxi service and public transport stations.
